In the first quarter of the year, Africa Giving launched an ambitious fundraising campaign themed “100 for US$100.” Our goal was to have 100 individuals each donate a minimum of US$100 to raise a total of US$10,000. By the end of the campaign, we successfully raised US$9,100. The campaign began by reaching out to individuals within the immediate circles of the SIVIO team and gradually expanded to a wider audience.
As part of the campaign, we spotlighted 10 organizations, showcasing the diverse range of causes supported on our platform. We asked these organizations to submit 30-second videos explaining what a US$100 donation would mean to them and how it would help their mission. Givers identified with the videos and as a result at the end of the campaign, 12 organizations received donations of varying amounts. One of the organizations that benefited from the campaign was the Society for Pre and Post-Natal Services (SPANS). SPANS is dedicated to supporting antenatal and perinatal nutrition, as well as postnatal care, to promote good mental health throughout the life cycle. They work with communities across the country to provide essential services. During the campaign, SPANS highlighted that the funds they received would be used to purchase benches for their waiting area at the Ruwa Clinic in Harare. At the time, expecting women had to either stand or sit on the ground for hours while waiting to be served. The benches would provide them with a comfortable place to sit.
Through the campaign, SPANS raised US$200, which they used to purchase the much-needed benches. On August 1st, SPANS invited Africa Giving to their organization to showcase the impact of the donations. They proudly displayed two colorful four-seater benches neatly placed outside their premises.
During our visit, we witnessed many women joining the queue at the SPANS premises. It quickly became apparent that the benches, although helpful, were not sufficient for the number of women being served. The director of SPANS expressed his gratitude for the donations and shared his future plans to buy more benches. He emphasized the importance of providing a comfortable waiting area for the women they serve. SPANS sharing their journey with us strengthened our commitment to assisting organizations like theirs. We are dedicated to helping them better serve their communities by providing a gateway for the smooth transaction of donations
